My process of layout is merely brainstorming with sketching.  These images are prospectives for Minerals series.
From a sketch I "rough out" a form by carving a Styrofoam block.
A skeleton of Pupil before the concrete.
In the early 1990's, my father and I built this 6' x 9' log cabin from hickory, oak, and walnut timbers harvested from our property.  Furnished with a cast iron stove and two shelf beds, we occasionally camped there at the edge of the forest, a brief walk from our house in Randolph County, Missouri. On-site building of this cabin is an iconic memory, and has helped me understand the economic accounting of materials described in Henry David Thoreau's book,  Walden.
