Travis Apel b. 1975 in Moberly, Missouri is a multimedia sculpture installation artist working in Omaha, Nebraska since 2001. Apel studied at Kansas City Art Institute from 1994-96. His work translates ecological voices with mediums of stone, metal, concrete, plastics, plant fibers, soil, and urban debris.
In 2022 he received Best 3D Award for the ARTELATINX Biennial at 1516 Gallery in Omaha, Nebraska. In 2020 Apel earned a People’s Choice Award for public sculpture at Art on the Campus in West Des Moines, Iowa. Affiliated with Amplify Arts in Omaha, Apel was a cohort member of Alternate Currents Working Group, and a Work In Progress Fellow in 2020 and 2019 respectively. A mid-career artist, Apel created artwork through artist residencies at Cel del Nord in Barcelona, Spain, and developed Nebraska projects at Hot Shops Art Center, Kimmel Harding Nelson Arts Center, El Museo Latino, and the Mayflower Mobile Gallery. He has sculptures in private collections and his artwork is featured in exhibitions nation wide.
